Goals

15 mins A McClen and Green one-two left LuaLua with the easy task of side-footing into an empty net, and thereafter the result was never in doubt. 1-0

36 mins Gavilan made it 2-0 after 36 minutes when LuaLua, in acres of space, crossed for the Paraguyan to notch his third of the season. 2-0

39 mins Stephen Glass put the ball in from the left and Bantams defender Karl Brown made a hash of things, leaving Gavilan again with a simple finish. 3-0

Half time: Bradford 0 Newcastle 3

63 mins Former Hearts player Gary Locke pulled one back for Bradford when a mix-up between Marcelino and Karelse gifted a goal on 63 minutes   3-1

83 mins

A Green shot was only parried to Colin McMenamin who swept the ball home. 4-1

90 mins Midfielder Stuart Green got the fifth in the final minute with a pile driver from just inside the area, after a few earlier warm ups had been saved or whistled past the goal. Unfortunately, as he turned away, arms aloft, Messrs Wadsworth and Robson were just leaving the ground and missed the strike.  5-1

Full time: Bradford 1 Newcastle 5

We Said

A naturally content Tommy Craig said:

"I am delighted, that was our best performance of the season, especially in the first 45 minutes where we played some excellent football.

"The pitch was wet and slippy but we used that to our advantage to produce some terrific passing football. It was a night of star performances but Jamie McClen was particularly outstanding and set us going with some excellent one and two touch passing.

"All in all it was a lovely way to round off the league campaign."

Report

The Reserves ended the season in some style with their fourth victory on the road, and highest tally of the campaign.

Other chances had fallen to Boyd, Bonvin and LuaLua at regular intervals, and our  tally could easily have ended in double figures.

It was sweet revenge for the Stiffs who had lost 2-1 at home to Bradford earlier in the season and also for the 6-3 stuffing at Valley Parade last year.

Pick of the United performances was Stuart Green, who was an influential figure in the centre of the park, linking up well with Jamie McClen, who operated down the left flank. With the Bantams allowing Newcastle almost unlimited time and space, the two midfielders gave a good account of themselves in front of the watching Robson and Wadsworth, and Green finally got tangible reward for his efforts with an excellent late strike.
