Newcastle's U21 side continued
their pursuit of a PL2 play-off spot on Friday evening, scoring a goal in each
half to win at Bishop Auckland's Heritage Park.
The visitors had the ball in the net in the 14th minute when Sean Neave tapped
home after Nathan Fisher blocked Garang Kuol's shot, only to be deemed offside.
United did go ahead on 27 minutes when Neave was fouled in the box and tucked
away his spot kick away via a post.
The black and whites should have gone in at half time two goals to the good, had
Kuol not taken Scott Bailey's pass and advanced into the area before dragging
his shot wide of the far post.
However their second of the night arrived just two minutes after the restart,
substitute Ben Parkinson marking his return from injury by firing home - Alfie
Harrison setting up the shooting chance.
Victory was achieved with little threat to the visitors, two late chances
falling to Kuol but Fisher equal on both occasions.
Victory lifted United up to eleventh in the 26 team league with three games
remaining. The top 16 will contest the end-of-season knockout phase.
PS: The Stott in the home line-up was Jack: we're unsure whether that's Donald
or Davey's lad.....
