A crazy night at Whitley Park ended with Newcastle U21s beaten for the second
time in PL2 this week, as the visitors exploited the defensive generosity and
attacking profligacy of the hosts.
The young Magpies were chasing the game from early on and trailed 1-5 at one
stage, before an abortive late comeback ended with them losing by three clear
goals.
Fresh from a 5-0 win at Norwich City, the Foxes took a sixth minute lead when
Jake Evans beat Magpies custodian James Taylor at his near post.
An equaliser looked likely as Garang Kuol enjoyed a lively passage of play that
saw him put two shots wide of the target and a third tamely into the arms of
visiting goalkeeper Harry French.
The scores were level on 22 minutes when Scott Bailey's corner from the left was
played low to Turner-Cooke who hit it first time, Sean Neave getting a vital
touch to divert it into the net.
Parity was brief however, Sammy Braybrooke firing home from outside the box
three minutes later.
The visitors extended their lead in the 54th when an attack down the left was
pulled to give Evans an easy finish for his second of the game.
It was 4-1 to City just three minutes later when Jayden Joseph's shot looked
like a simple take for Taylor, only for the 'keeper to allow the ball between
his legs.
A third away goal in just seven second half minutes followed when Evans hit a
speculative shot from the right side of the box that Taylor could only help in.
The Magpies got one back in the 69th minute after Garang Kuol picked up the ball
on the edge of the box and won his one-on-one with the 'keeper.
Another followed for United five minutes later via an outrageous attempt from
substitute Matheos Ferreira that looped over the 'keeper and into the net; the
16 year-old's first goal at this level.
Alfie Harrison then twice found himself in good positions, only to wastefully
fire wide. Kuol also went close in the 90th minute but hit the post and a minute
later was through on goal but could only fire weakly at French.
The ninth goal and final goal of the game arrived seconds before the end of four
added minutes, City substitute Tommy Neale drilling a low shot into the far
corner of the net to make it 3-6.
