Newcastle U21s were in PL2 action on Friday
afternoon, facing Leeds United at their Thorp Arch training ground - an
alteration to the original published fixture the same night at York City.
Having netted a hat-trick last Saturday in a 5-4 victory for our U18s at the
same venue, there was a first PL2 start for Sean Neave. And it took the 17
year-old striker less than two minutes to fire his side ahead, shooting past
Rory Mahady.
Back came the hosts, Rhys Chadwick making it 1-1 in the 21st minute with a shot
from distance, only for the Magpies to regain the lead eight minutes later when
defender Charlie McArthur headed in a corner kick.
One ahead at the break, the Magpies then opened up a two goal lead when Ben
Parkinson notched his sixth league and cup goal of the season from close range.
That proved sufficient to give Diarmuid O'Carroll's side their third away win of
the season from four games and raise them from thirteenth to seventh in the
table. Leeds meanwhile drop one place to ninth, having had their run of three
successive PL2 victories halted.
