Following victories over Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa,
Newcastle U21s were looking to make it three PL2 wins in succession for the
first time since January 2022 when they took to the field at Little Benton on
Saturday.
Sadly though, the Magpies were unable to muster a meaningful shot on target
throughout the game and visitors Manchester United left with maximum points
after a goal in each half.
The hosts had dominated the early stages before the visitors had sight of goal
on 14 minutes; Aidan Harris equal to Gabriele Biancheri's shot from inside the
box.
From their next attack two minutes later the Red Devils went ahead, Jaydan
Kamason given time to centre from the right and leave Sam Mather with an easy
finish.
On an afternoon where Newcastle continually wasted crosses and dead ball
situations, their best chance of scoring fell to Anthony Munda just before the
hour - bursting into the box after an exchange of passes with Travis Hernes but
denied by Finlay McAllister's block.
A breakaway goal four minutes from the end of normal time then sealed the
destination of the points; visiting goalkeeper Dermott Mee claiming an assist
after his clearance allowed substitute Ethan Ennis to break down the left and
head infield before picking his spot.
