Following a season-opening 1-1 home draw with the mackems, Sunday afternoon saw Newcastle U21s claim a notable victory over the reigning champions.

Ben Parkinson opened the scoring in the 15th minute, latching on to Jamie Miley's through ball after the midfielder had robbed Tottenham's George Abbott in the middle of the park.

The home side had the ball in the United net midway through the first half, but
Callum Olusesi's shot was ruled out for an earlier offside.

Beaten 1-4 at the same venue last season, the Magpies twice came close to extending their lead after the break, but both Parkinson and Trevan Sanusi fired wide when confronted with Josh Keeley in the Spurs goal.
