Today's scoreline matched the one recorded the last time that these two sides met at reserve level; Spurs 4-1 winners at their training ground in January 2014.

Following their opening weekend victory over Southampton on Tyneside, Newcastle's U21 side were beaten on the road in their second PL2 fixture of the season.

The hosts began with an eye-catching 5-0 success at current league champions Manchester City and were soon into their stride when
Yago de Santiago Alonso broke through the United defence and rounded Jude Smith before sliding the ball into an empty net.

Spurs soon doubled that advantage through Soonsup-Bell, who added to his hat-trick the previous weekend with a close range effort from Jamie Donley's assist.

Spanish midfielder Alonso then ended the game as a contest shortly after the interval, before Nile John added a fourth after a loose ball ran kindly to him.

Ben Dawson's Magpies belatedly got on the scoresheet when Ben Parkinson teed up James Huntley, who beat Josh Keeley to register his first competitive goal at this level.

The hosts gave a debut to 18 year-old central defender Ashley Phillips, recently signed from Blackburn Rovers.
